About a month ago, the Sheriff of Hendry County posted a public statement on Facebook accusing us of provoking “violent rhetoric” on social media.
It was blatantly false.
And it wasn’t just some misinformed opinion. It was a calculated move, timed right as we were turning up the pressure to stop a dangerous, unnecessary rock mine proposal in the Everglades Agricultural Area.
We called it out for what it was: a coordinated political attack—pushed by Big Sugar—to discredit our work, intimidate us through law enforcement, and silence our opposition to their rock mine.
Then, not long after the post went live, the comments were turned off. Big Sugar’s propaganda machine picked up the narrative. Trolls flooded the internet. And the smear campaign was off and running.
But here’s the part they didn’t expect: we don’t back down. And neither did you. After we broke the news, our supporters flooded social media, calling out the collusion and demanding more transparency.
We’re Digging for Answers
All the social media buzz led to news coverage, and in an interview not long after issuing his statement, the sheriff himself admitted that it was U.S. Sugar that had brought the allegation to his attention. That says a lot.

- Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office
- Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners
Our goal is simple: follow the paper trail. Find out who was involved, who influenced the sheriff’s statement, and how far the coordination with industry interests really goes.
