JOIN THE CAPTAINS ALLIANCE

Since Captains For Clean Water was founded in 2016, fishing guides across the state of Florida have been instrumental advocates in the fight for clean water. By uniting into a collective voice, we’ve won some major battles together over the years, but this fight is far from over. Everglades Restoration still faces constant threats from special interests, so we’re calling on guides like you to join our Captains Alliance and strengthen our army of clean-water advocates.

The Alliance

The mission of the Captains Alliance is to engage and educate guides about the issues our waters face while introducing ways to become an active voice in the fight for clean water. We’ve found that a lack of public awareness about our water issues in one of the biggest hurdles to overcoming them, and we need your help to get more people involved so we can continue moving the needle.

As a Captains Alliance member, we’ll ensure you have the resources you need to educate interested clients and fellow guides on the challenges facing Everglades restoration, what’s at stake, and the solutions we’re advocating for.

To be eligible for participation, you must possess a USCG captain’s license and a FWC charter license.

By signing onto the team, not only are you joining a community that’s passionate about saving our waters, you’re also supporting our mission to restore and protect Florida’s aquatic resources for the enjoyment of all. Because of you, progress is happening!

**Thanks to the generous support of our legacy partners, your first year in the Captains Alliance is completely covered. After the first year, membership will be $50 annually with manual enrollment required to continue your participation**

“As fishing guides, we have a unique perspective to share and a perfect platform to share it from. We’re able to reach more people who care about our waters, expose them to the beauty of the resource, and empower them to become advocates.”

THE HISTORIC VETO OF SENATE BILL 2508

The historic veto of Senate Bill 2508, made possible by nearly 50,000 action-takers and over 100 fishing guides rallying at the state Capitol in 2022. Guides were critical in creating a social media movement with millions of impressions that led to this monumental win for clean water.

TAKING DOWN THE "TOXIC SPILL BILL"

Taking down the “Toxic Spill Bill” in 2024. This bill was a threat to every person in Florida, limiting the liability of polluters and restricting legal options for citizens in the event of a toxic spill. With guides at the forefront, we reached 250,000 people and created enough political pressure to kill the bill.

SECURING A FAVORABLE LAKE OPERATIONS PLAN

Securing a favorable Lake operations plan was a long battle (2019-2022), resulting in a more equitable management plan, LOSOM, to be implemented in 2024. This plan will reduce damaging discharges from the Lake to both coasts by 37%. Big Sugar made multiple attempts to “hijack” LOSOM, but through massive awareness campaigns and calls-to-action with the support of the outdoor community, we were able to defeat their attempts.

MAJOR MILESTONES AT THE EAA RESERVOIR

After decades of delay and years of fighting for funding, we’ve witnessed major milestones at the EAA Reservoir, breaking ground in early 2023 with the STA completed in January of 2024. The construction of this cornerstone Everglades Restoration project is steaming ahead and expected to be fully operational by 2030.
