Outdoor Industry once again rallies behind CFCW to advocate for annual Everglades Restoration funding.
Outdoor brands from across the nation have again signed onto our letter to Congress requesting $725 million for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) in the FY25 budget.
More than two decades into the plan and the critical national effort has been experiencing massive momentum in recent years, but there’s still a long road ahead and major projects to complete, so we must continue fighting for bold annual funding that will keep the pedal down on progress.
Everglades funding is critical every single year
Authorized back in 2000, Everglades Restoration is a multibillion-dollar plan that relies on annual appropriations from the federal government and State of Florida.
Success of the plan hinges on securing adequate funding for the plan year after year.
With proper support, the effort can maintain progress at the record pace of late and expedite projects when possible. Without enough funding, things could stall. We cannot let the latter take shape.
There’s entirely too much on the line not to invest in restoring this national treasure, including monumental environmental and economic implications.
Everglades Restoration:
- Will provide a 4:1 return on investment for Florida’s economy, which thrives on tourism, fishing, and outdoor recreation.
- Will significantly reduce the damaging Lake Okeechobee discharges that can destroy habitat and create multibillion-dollar impacts.
- Safeguards the drinking water for millions of people in South Florida.
- Protects a major carbon sink, building ecological and community resilience.
By investing in restoration, we also ensure clean water and protect tens of thousands of jobs that make up Florida’s $13.8 billion recreational fishing industry and the broader $52 billion outdoor recreation economy.
Brands from coast to coast have shown collective unity by signing onto our letter, highlighting their continued commitment to our treasured waters. They recognize that a healthy Everglades benefits everyone, and that it’s up to everyone to protect.
With the support of the outdoor industry, we’ll remain dedicated to this fight and will continue to push for funding each year until the restoration is complete.
