Protecting our waters against the unexpected.

At Captains For Clean Water, our mission is to restore and protect Florida’s water. We educate and inform the public, empowering them to use their voices for change. And together, we’ve made incredible progress.

2022 dealt us a few hands that tested us, but our army of supporters showed up like never before. In true Captains spirit, the trials, victories and devastating unknowns encountered throughout the last year were met with passion-fueled determination to make clean water progress.

From all of us at Captains For Clean Water, thank you for being a part of our crew. We look forward to another year fighting alongside our fierce army of clean water advocates!

Senate Bill 2508

SB2508 was a blindsiding, political ploy by special interests to keep control of Florida’s water, threatening the progress we have made on Everglades restoration. Our Education and Awareness campaign efforts were heard loud and clear – resulting in a historic veto of the bad bill after a long-fought, 55 day battle. Our army showed up like never before!

LOSOM Finale

The new Lake Okeechobee operations plan is coming in for a landing and is scheduled to be implemented in 2023. LOSOM has been a collaborative, 3-year process by the Army Corps of Engineers. This plan will dictate how the lake is managed for the next 10 years. Involvement in the development process was key for a favorable outcome.

  • 3x’s more water south to the Everglades.
  • 37% reduction in discharges to the coasts.

Hurricane Relief

Hurricane Ian made a direct hit in our backyard causing widespread, catastrophic damage. The urgent need to support local fishing guides who were severely impacted was quickly recognized. Thanks to our generous supporters, we created the Emergency Disaster Relief Fund to generate longterm work opportunities for guides while the community recovers.

AWARENESS

A critical piece of our mission is generating awareness around the good, bad and corrupt sides of water quality in Florida. We believe that if more people knew the truth behind what it takes to have clean water, everyone would be inspired to get involved.

In 2022 our digital awareness campaigns reached a staggering number of people opening future opportunities for engagement on key, mission-critical objectives.
