YOUR SUPPORT WAS HEARD!

you brought us one step closer to the finish line

A message from our founders…

“Thank you for taking the time to make your voice heard on the new Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual. This positive direction the Army Corps is taking on lake management is a direct result of public engagement from folks like yourself demanding a better plan than the status quo which has devastated our coastal communities. This plan is on track to be implemented in the spring of 2023 and will have an immediate impact on how discharges are managed. This plan is expected to reduce annual harmful discharges by 37% to the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie rivers- a huge win for our estuaries.”

So What’s Next?

Stay Educated – Stay Engaged

LOSOM’s favorable discharge model is a massive improvement to the years of abuse our estuaries received from previous lake operations. Because of YOU, significant improvements to water quality and equitable management are on the horizon. This manual is in play for the next 10 years – that’s a huge win!
April 2023 is the projected implementation time frame for the updated operations manual. This will be a long awaited, 3 year in the making, celebration in the fight towards clean water progress.
Until then, the need for supporters continues. We encourage you to stay engaged, have conversations, ask questions and above all – always be an advocate for clean water!

Encourage your crew to take action!
