Our economy relies on healthy estuaries. We need to do more to protect them. South Florida’s estuaries and economy are under assault as a result of decades of deliberate mismanagement of our water resource. We are here to organize and educate the public on these issues. We have solutions to this crisis.
The Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie estuaries are threatened by nutrient and sediment laden freshwater discharges from Lake Okeechobee. Florida’s hydrology has been altered significantly over the last century, starting with the channelization of the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Rivers and their connection by way of manmade canals to Lake Okeechobee.
