Thanks to our incredible sponsors, the 2018 Restore Gala was an incredible success!
On March 9, 2018, a crowd of over 400 fishing captains, leading outdoor industry brands, realtors, South Florida business leaders and residents gathered on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River at the White Orchid at Oasis. After sipping cocktails and watching the sunset on the river, Capt. CA Richardson of Flats Class TV introduced a lineup of speakers to the crowd. Each speaker, taking turns to explain the issues plaguing the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Rivers, the Everglades and the Florida Bay. In addition to highlighting the issues facing our estuaries, the speakers, including Zack Jud, Ph.D., offered solutions to the problems.
After the speakers, Capt. CA Richardson and Sawyer Smith requested that the audience participates in a ‘capital call.’ Microphones were passed around to each audience member, and inspirational stories were shared, along with pledges to Captains for Clean Water. The event raised over $200K which Captains for Clean Water will use towards educating the public and bringing awareness to Everglades restoration. In addition to education and outreach, Captains for Clean Water also works closely with policymakers to further advancements in science-based solutions to our water crisis.
